Just stripped the varnish off the SWIMBO's Scow and I would like to restore the colour to the Mahogany prior to re-varnishing. Any ideas on how to do this without excessive scraping or sanding?

Could put a coat or two or Epifanes Rapid Coat on prior to varnishing, will add a bit of colour back in. I used in on weathered teak in cockpit, brought the natural colour out a treat and then stuck 6 coats of Epifanes rapid clear varnish over the top.

If you are back to bare wood a shelac clear sealer will bring out the natural colour of the wood. The sealer can be coloured with pigments if needed to give a richer hue. Then varnish over the top. Shelac sealer can be found in any good diy shop. The pigments are harder to find but try a furniture restorer website.
