The local sailmaker is happy to put in new windows so that's okay, but has no suggestions as to whether the colour can be restored. It's red which I know fades badly, and if i remember rightly PBO had an article suggesting there was a product for recolouring blue and green sprayhoods but didn't mention red.

Any experience or suggestions?

All our covers and hoods were red and we had the same problem and are in process of changing to beige, on the basis that no one can tell if its faded or not. Boat looks a bit scrappy with beige sail cover and red, well pink, spray hood but a couple more years and it will all be same color.

It's to do with light fastness.

In the CMYK (cyan, magenta, yellow and black) range that is used in the printing industry, yellow is the first to fade followed by magenta (red), and then blue. If you look at colour pictures that have been subject to sunlight you'll see what I mean as most of them will be bluey/black.

You can't defeat the sun so your only long term option is to die it black.
