We have an 80th, 50th, 30th, 20th, and 18th birthday in our family this year, so 14 of us are going to have a week in Salcombe in October (half term week, 25th Oct) to celebrate.

We want to book somewhere for an early evening meal for us all. Ages will range from 6 to 80, we want a range on the menu to accomodate all tastes, and be able to make a bit of noise.

Any recommendations greatly appreciated.

Boaty bit; several of us are sailors, and would like to get on the water for a day; does anyone know a good charter company that would do a single day charter, for say 8 of us? With or without accompanying skipper?

Hi, I can't help with the restaurent advice but maybe with the boaty bit!
You could try the Island Cruising Club who have a 37ft cruising yacht coded for 8.

With a booking for 14, I am sure that you could negotiate a menu for youselves and also maybe special price.

Confirmed booking for 14 and pre agreed menu would be great for any restaurant.

Hope the good traders of Salcombe have removed their Jolly Rogers. Things may have changed but search on here shows dismal reports and much boycotting. BOL

Boatswains, 01548 842189. It is right in the centre of the town off Fore Street. We have seen children in there and Christine will adapt the standard menu. There are numerous other restaurants which seem to have good and bad reports depending on staff and how busy they are. Over the years we have had good meals in The Galley, Dusters and 42 Restaurant. The Kings Arms can also be good. If you are willing to travel to Malborough 2.5 miles out of Salcombe, we can definitely recommend The Royal Oak. Check if there is a theme or music night as locals book early.
There are few boats for charter in Salcombe. You could telephone the Harbour office on 01548 843791. You will get a better response in Plymouth. Try Westways or Liberty. If you want any other information, email me and I will give you a telephone number. We have been based in Salcombe since 1980.
