Restaurant recommendations Isle of Wight

Off to the IOW for the weekend. Decided to hire a car (£24 per day ) So it's off to black gang chine with the kids and maybe Carrisbroke castle.

I am fairly familiar with the restaurants of Cowes and Yarmouth so since we are not restricted to places near the marina can any recommend a good place to eat outside of Cowes or Yarmouth?

Red Lion at Freshwater, nice walk there and back from Y'muff.

I know, its borderline wrong to post as its sort of Y'muff related, but its very nice.

I might do a completely perverse thing for a boaty to do and drive to Newtown Creek* and try the pubs there. Someone off-forum recommended the Horse and Groom, is the new inn better?

*Her Indoors doesn't like anchoring so I need to prove to her that is flat there all the time

...my choice would still be Buddle Inn, especially as you are going to be south of the island anyway... after lunch you could have a nice walk down to St Catherines point...

Had a very good meal at The Breeze restaurant at Island Harbour last year. Would definitely recommend. There was live music when we were there, and good it was too. But, if you prefer to eat is peace and quiet, worth checking if it is a regular occurrence.

Both pubs run by the same company - you want to head for Shalfleet, not Newtown.
