Happy New Year everyone !

I sometimes get confused who someone is actually responding to. Unless they obviously use the 'quote' button.

Are the responses sorted in a way that quoting is not necessary ?

Even more confusing when the "response" appears before the question.

Some people forget that it's not like the old days (6 months ago?), where you had to reply to a specific post.

I agree that it is confusing. I've often given up on a thread because as you suggest, it's impossible to figure out what some responses relate to.

I find the multi quote useful as well. The fact that threads often drift from the original question or point means that more often than not any more than a few replies in you might well need to quote so anyone reading the thread can keep track...

I have never yet got the multiquote to work.
Perhaps it's because I use Opera browser. Maybe it doesn't read the instruction correctly.
Note to self: try it on Firefox.

Ooh-er thats what multiquote is all about then. Works with Chrome it seems

Essential IMHO to use a quote, just few words selected manually not the whole darned post, to indicate to which previous post the response is referring

A quoter of quotes once quoted a quote and the quote that he quoted was a multi quoted quote.
One quote was misquoted so the whole quote that the quoter had quoted was misquoted.

Or something like that !

Try saying that when pi$$ed :-)

I much prefer having the (default) option of replying to "the thread" and it being a deliberate choice to respond to a specific poster / post.

Of course the Forum ain't perfect. I think Dan gave up on reading the manual past the initial set up stuff :D

It works with FF.

I am constantly puzzled by forumites who copy and paste lines from previous posts and then put them in "" or in one case, colours them light blue, which is a bit more helpful as it identifies the quote, but seems long winded when it is simple just to click the 'Quote' or multi-quote icon.

Hello? Would that be me you are refering to?

Would you prefer another colour perchance?

Anways... if there is some long winded post that you just want to quote a bit of ... I just copy the little bit I want... and paste it in in blue... seemplse.

Response to post #13

All the posts are numbered. Naming the person to whom you are replying doesn't necessarily work, since that person may have made several posts. 'Quotes' work, but may involve some searching. Is it easier to use the post numbers?
