I have been pestered on a few occasions by Jaguar's research company to take part in various research activities. The first one was a day driving different cars - Jags, Mercs, Porsche, plus listening to engine sounds in a studio!! I have been asked to spend a day at their design studio giving my views on future cars and they want to spend half a day at my home looking at my 'lifestyle'.

I think this is very good for product development, but do any boat companies do this or do they just expect folk to buy what they make?

you poor thing. A BMW driver would send them a bill for their time, and a Merc driver would simply break the cars, specially the poxy XK8/XJ8 which has a light saying "too fast" at 120+. Polling the blimmin customers is always a bit desperate, I feel, bit like pizza waiters who ask "is everything alright?". Most other cars are bought without a test drive. I trust you expressed depression at being associated with a car once nationalised by TBenn, then dumped best-looking car of all time in favour of Xceptional Junk - Shoddy, and for last 15 years has flogged away at a reworked version of the XJ6 but without the fabulous two rows of buttons of the Series 1, now with the same badge as hopeless F1 team in vain hope of perhaps selling as many cars in a year as Merc sell in a month?

Near where we work is a fave hangout for poll-baiting as the pollsters use this area which has perfect demographics when they poll a mere 1,00 people and then bang on about the results. I always report thinking of sex 9 million times a minute, watch 132,000 hours of TV every day, consume 1400 points of alcohol every day, and would happily spend as much as 150 quid on our annual holiday.

Sadly for the boating industry, I have never been polled. What fabulous boats we would have.

I don't have to send them a bill, they just give me a wad of cash every time!!!

The main reason I participate is with the hope they will make the car I really , really want! BTW, I don't see the light that says I'm going too fast cause my eyes are shut.
