Rescuers save 19 from inflatable boat

On TV it was stated that Albanians (17 on boat) can travel visa free within europe, so why were they "illegals"?

Surely if they were 'Legal' they'd get on the ferry?

The Dorset Police Commissioner was exactly right this morning, the so called Border force is grossly underfunded and under resourced for the present situation, although he is obviously a Sunday Times reader.

What was disappointing was the response from the Kent M.P. brought on to provide the counter argument who clearly had no concept of the potential problem and was completely in denial that there was a problem..... maybe there isn't, depending on your political position, but I find it worrying

The Dover straits is one of the busiest and most watched sea area anywhere and I wonder where these two ribs set out from without anyone noticing.Or were the polis fully aware and waiting when they rocked up?

As Daydream says...
They should be returned to the shore they left... That sends a simple message, you don't get in and you get ripped off. ... By finishing their journey for them the authorities create the market for more attempts.

All that will happen will be more heavy handed jobsworths sticking their noses into our sailing.

That is what is now happening in the Greek islands but it required a comprehensive agreement and lots of money. It also assumes we know where they come from,so if the French say they might have left from Belgium or been dropped off a ship it becomes tricky.Any deal has to work for all sides or it wont happen.
I believe the Aussies pay Papua New Guinea to take refugees.Perhaps we could do a deal?
