I haven't been to Yarmouth for a couple of years and I am thinking of going there on Sunday.

I believe it is all walk ashores now which ought to be a good thing. Do you still just turn up in the entrance and shout down to the guys in the little boat?

Where is the best place for lunch these days?

Lovely place still.

More walk ashore than there used to be but still have the piles and an offshore pontoon. In spite of the bother tying up to them, we still like the piles.

We havenoticed that it is best to arrive either soon after lunch and get a spot for the afternoon and evening, or after about 4pm when the 'short stay' people all leave to create some space.

Most of the walk ashore seem to have been booked online these days. Check their website.

Eating? Phone the Red Lion (Voted Isle of Wight Best Pub by IW Good Food Guide 2010) and book. Then walk along the River Yar (30 minutes?) on the old railway track is nice and uses a few calories before a couple of pints and some hearty food. Then get a taxi back to the harbour later.

Cheers

Garold

There are 60 walk ashore pontoon berths, out of which 20 are bookable.

But, in practice, they like to put mobos "In the corner" and keep the sailyboats to themselves. Works well generally, but best not to get there too late, else you might end up with "piles"
