Google doesn't come up with any answers. I am looking to buy a 3.5HP outboard to go a 10' fibre glass tender to use from Itchenor (Is that a suitable combination for the currents at Itchenor? 2 adults 2 kids), to travel 0.8 of a mile to get to the boat.

Does anyone know of a good firm selling new or s/h outboards?

Thanks

Personally I would go to Ron Hale marine in Highland Road in Southsea. They have most of the range on display, have been selling them for years and actually do the servicing of outboard engines on site at the back of the shop.

(No association with them but we used to take the university rescue boat engine to them.. when we tried somewhere else for a service we were sure it didn't work as smoothly... so we returned to Ron Hale.. )

BTW - I know the store looks small from the road - and you don't see all the RIBS/dinghies etc on display but if you ask they will show you.... They have more floor space than you might realise to display those dinghies...

And if you are in the area and need chandlery that they don't have (since they are mostly engines and dinghies) then visit Chris Hornsey, just around the corner!

Outboard engine sales near Chichester.

Suggest you contact Bill Mitchell, Home Marine, Tarquin Yacht Harbour, Thorney Road, Emsworth, PO10 8PB. Tel: 01243 - 374125.

Great company to deal with.

Thanks folks. I spoke to Bill very helpful as you say but bought a 3.5HP from Ron Hale yesterday and today I picked up a great little 10' grp, classic style clinker effect boat from Ipswich today - yes a long way to go  but couldn't find anything local.

Hoping to get them wet tomorrow for a trial run and start running the new engine in. Yes I want to play really :D.

Tohatsu 3.3hp 2 stroke
Tohatsu make most O/bs & they get re-badged

I went for a new 3.5hp Tohatsu Sailorman  Yes four stroke but only 18Kg so fingers crossed it should be OK. I didn't have any problems with my 6hp Honda four stroke so see how this one goes. Looks an OK little engine!

If it lasts five years that will do me, I will probably service it myself £55 + parts adds up to quite a lot each year just to keep the warranty, worth risking it and servicing myself as usual. It will only do minimum hours pushing the tender........
