Replacing windows on a 1988 boat

The cabin windows on my 1988 Sealine look a bit dated . Is it possible to replace them for more modern (elliptical) shaped windows - I think it would make the boat look a lot smarter as the rest of the boat is in great nick?

Who should I approach to do that kind of work?

The windows on your boat were probably manufactured by Trend Marine Products here in Norfolk. they make windows and doors for big 4: Broom, Princess, Fairline, Sunseeker.
Unfortunatly Trend dont make one off's. So you would have to seek another manufacturer, there are a few in the broads area, further a field however im not so sure.
Have you considered the costs involved in actualy changing the window shape and if on your sealine wether its possible. Some times you will find the windows are actually recessed in to the superstructure making this impossible. I would suggest changing them to stainless steel but these are prone to salt corrosion!!
I can put you in touch with a company here in Brundall that specialises in window repairs and one off sets they would be better equipt to advise you!

The change in title above says it all.
When I found that my dodgy forehatch was a cheap imitation of the Houdini 50 I ended up with . . . Houdini. They specialise in custom-built windows and hatches and I found both service and product quite excellent, delivering an unusual size and a top-opening improvement without a murmur.
BUT if you want to change shape and structure you might as well buy another boat, for that'll be megabucks I'm sure.

Are you looking for a changed shape on the outside only or also in the structure, cause if you were using smoked glass, you could get away with a cheap addition of the windows of your shape on the outside, but no major structural changes to the boat - would also allow you to decide if that is what you really wanted on the boat.

Any of the window companies would be able to do that.

I hadn't thought of the "change shape without changing structure" idea but that could be a better option and a good idea.

Are there specialist boat window companies out there?

I live in Birmingham so that might not be easy......

Lots of companies in the Solent. Other than that , probably best known is Houdini if you really want aluminium surrounds. Most sailing boats use acrylic without ant form of surround, and using the correct version of sikaflex, you can fit without even any through bolts.

The previous owner of our 1990 HT27 did that a few years ago; because it's smoked glass it looks good. Ironically the shape of 'modern' windows is now very similar to the original shape in the GRP and we are contemplating going back to those, just got to figure out how to cover up the 32 screw holes per window!
