The industry norm seems to be about ten years for replacement of standing rigging. How far does one go, is it just the wires that have to be replaced or should all shackles, bottle screws, pins and even chain plates be replaced after the agreed period.

We've had our stnading rigging replaced twice in 11 years once when we got it and again this year. Everythnig down to the chainplates gets replaced. We had also had new chainplates fitted in 1995 and again in 2002 after some cracks were found in the 1995 vintage.

The wire will always weaken where it enters a solid fitting like a turnbuckle and has flexed at that specific point - usually leading to one or more wires breaking.
IMHO none of the 'solid' bits of stainless or bronze like turnbuckles, shackles, chain plates etc should have been damaged - where they are it is usually apparent to the naked eye.
If you are worried, all could be dye stained or even X-rayed for hair line fractures - but they are pretty rare.
Cheers
JOHN
