I need to replace all the running rigging on a rustler 36, a few I can probably cut down to replace the slab reefing, but in general all need to go. My old school favourite has always been marlow braid on braid. Have looked around for maybe a cheap reel, old stock, but not much seems to be on offer. Its hardly worth having all lines the same colour when its the same price as rope locker and I can select a different colour for each line. Any where I should look that I might not know of? Should I fly to the canaries on holiday and come back with 200m of rope in my suitcase? Advice appreciated

I Have never really the need for dyneema. I had 1 Dyneema halyard on my other boat but that was on my inner forestay and running my stormsal. But that was because I only had an 8mm sheeve on the mast that I did not want to replace, and thought 8mm line for an 11 ton boats storm sail a bit risky. Otherwise I cant afford the cost. All lines are to the mast so no great lengths that stretch too much.

Look for a boat jumble?
And armed with a list of lengths and diameters spend a day wrapping yourself in end of reels “bargains”, you might get lucky with patience and preparation..
A boat I know fairly well and I have been down this route, but just after the 2008 crash there were a fair few chandlers dumping new stock at huge discounts after closure. But you had to allocate time to do the few jumble rounds through the autumn to spring..

You can rig overlength and ‘end for end’ as the years go by as wear tends to be localised on chaff and blocks..

To an extent you will be led by the diammeter of turning blocks and jammers if everythin is lead aft.

`i found that it is worth going up a few mm on jib sheets if you're going off on a long one-again it depends what size genoa cars you have.

Dyneema? Even for the staysail halliard I wouldnt bother unless it was a giveaway.

(And since you suggest popping to the canaries i am thinking value for money is important.)

Edit : From memory all braid on braid 10mm 3x reefing, 12 topping, and other halliards, 14 main halliard, 16 for jibsheets which was good on the self tailers and hands.
And you are going to need a bit more than 200m reel . Best luck

A bit late now but when I used to go to the boat show I invariably found some reasonable lengths in bin end bins at most of the chandlers which allowed a progressive renewal of running rigging and all the other stuff like preventers and mooring warps.

Re rig in the canaries
I can just imagine the conversation;

Me "Love, I'm heading to the chandlers to buy some new rope, do you want anything picked up when I'm away?"
My Wife "When you're AWAY? don't you mean... out?"
Me "Nope - popping to the shop in Gran Canaria - I'l be back in 2 months"

😀

How do you verify the quality and manufacturer of such rope?
I think the only way to do that is to buy in person from a chandler so you can see the stuff on the reels. If you buy rope online you don’t get to see the manufacturer’s name - you just get sent a length of rope. I’ve bought a fair bit of braid on braid reel ends on eBay and it all turned out to be as described. None of it was premium stuff, but it’s all lasted years rather than months. Only stuff I’m fussy about is halyards. Cruising dyneema for that, but still reel ends wherever possible. I’ve never paid more than £3 per metre for new cruising dyneema (8 or 10mm). Current stuff is English Braids.

Thankyou for you replies, I hadn`t heard of marine scene, that`s a good price for liros, might consider that for some, but prefer marlowbraid for main Rig. Would dearly love to re-rig in the canaries but I am stuck here for at least another year. I shall be down this weekend in the wind and rain mousing all the lines and doing some measuring.
