replacing rotten planking

I have a 1966 edition of Lloyds Rules for the construction of wood yachts.
Re butts in single skin construction, the book says "No butts are to be nearer than 4' to each other; no butts are to be in the same frame space unless there are three strakes between".
"Butts in the planking are to be strapped or scarphed".

I beginning to think the same, even contemplating blindfold with arm tied behind back. That way I can do the hieroglyphs in Braille.

Alternatively maybe B&Q have the correct size planks on the shelf.
