Replacing G\'whale

Intend replacing rubber insert to aluminium gunwhale/ rubbing strake.

Know the theory.
Any helpful wheezes?
Likely to be cold when done (ie; rubber pretty hard).

(Think I might quit whilst I'm ahead).
Await replies.

Re: Replacing G\'whale

I know this sounds very Heath Robinson, but a good strong spoon, and a small amout of washing up liquid, I placed the top flange in first and then worked the lower in with the spoon. Managed a 28 footer in a few hours. (must admit my hands ached like mad for days)! Alternatively if your loaded get the boatyard in, and you find the nearest public house, it's a lot easier!

Yes - use a blunt instrument to ease it in and a hair dryer or paint stripper hot air gun to soften it - but be careful with the hot air gun - as it might melt the insert! - I know - I did!
Oh, and as I was replacing the original - I didn't stretch it enough and ended up with a gap at the end...
