Hello, I'm an infrequent poster but always value the advice I get here so all replies appreciated...

My boat has recently sustained some gel coat damage as a result of rubbing against some exposed bolts after the dock fender rode off its fixings. The dock fender is the sort that is basically cylindrical with a quarter chopped out. I think it may have been pulled up by a spring line slipping underneath in a blow.

I now have to do something with the dock fenders. either make good, replace or remove and rely on the boat's fenders (which is how I have left the boat for now).

If I replace then I'm thinking about moving to a strip style pontoon fender like this:

Does anyone have any views / experience of the relative merits of the cylinder vs the strip type?

It's a 31 ft boat on a half tide mooring, bilge keel so it sits upright when in the mud. The prevailing wind pushes the boat off the pontoon but anything with any East in it (e.g. a savage winter blow) pushes her onto the pontoon.

Thanks.
