Whilst I have the mast down I've decided to replace the chain plate U bolts that bolt through the deck of my Eolia 25.

Trouble is, no-one seems to offer something that is the correct size. Does anyone know where I can find something that is about the right size? The dimensions of :
L1: 72mm
L2: 30mm
L3: 33mm
L4: 25mm
B: 42mm
G: M8

They need to be in A4 stainless steel with plates as per the diagram: https://marinestore.co.uk/Merchant2/graphics/00000001/diagram_ubolt.jpg

Any thoughts anyone? The originals look as if they have been sawn down lengthwise but I'm stumped. Anywhere I should ask?

Many thanks in advance!

Because they're scored and grooved after 25 years service.

The deck has been reinforced, all the rigging & bottlescrews replaced and now I thought I'd replace the U bolts, just to make sure the rig stays in the right place...

Ok
oversized plated on the deck to cover existing holes ( filled first ) & standardise the chain plates
Or get the existing filled ( weld) faired up
what is your existing cap shrouds ?? 5 m/m 1 x 19 wire

Just ona related subject a friend bought a new Farr 25 from Turkey a few years ago. It is a real racer with huge sail area, deep fin/bulb keel, carbon fibre mast assy spinnacker etc. It goes like a rocket and in fact competes in some "Sports boat" events. 4 weeks back at the start of a race we heardd a loaud crack immediately followed by another crack and the carbon fibre mast was broken mid height and deck level. Turned out it was a U bolt type chain plate on intermediate side stay that broke. The failure was at the start of the threaded section on both legs. The amazing thing being the U bolt was only 5mm diameter. He is proposing to replace all 4 with 6mm diameter U bolts. I reckon he should be going for 10mm. There is just no point on skimping on metal at the is point and the cut thread does weaken the metal a lot. good luck olewill
