I have just fitted a new drive belt on my st4000 wheel pilot. Problem is - as soon as i put the front cover on,it (the front cover) will not turn at all:whether the clutch is on or off. The front cover should turn 'freewheel' with clutch off, i.e with wheelpiiot disengaged. I have tried fitting the front cover a few times. When I take the belt off it turns freely. It doesn't help that the instruction manual i inherited with the boat seems to refer to the ST4000+ (I think the mark 2 version rather than the mk1 which I have). On my unit there doesn't appear to be a way of adjusting the clutch tightness - whereas on St4000+ there is a clear way to do this. Any advice and tips on why the front cover will not turn extremely welcome? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Haven't experience that problem. However I fitted a replacement second hand drive and discovered the clutch disengaged when tried to use. When dismantled I discovered one of the belt guide wheels had been assembled the wrong way up and was sticking. Perhaps this could also cause it not to turn.
Another thought, could you have been given the belt for the 4000+ and this a differnt length ?

Thanks. The belt appears right- sames length as old one and in labelled packaging. The front (outer cover) is very difficult to turn when the clutch is off. Guide wheels seem okay and to move freely.

there is an adjustable cam on the st4000 which needs releasing a little. it is under a black cover and there is a brass adjuster .the details are on the raymarine site which has the full manual, it is under customer support.
good luck

Replaced the belt on our very old 4000 last week and noticed that there's more than one belt width.
Have you compaired the old with the new belt to make sure it's not too wide?
