finally decided to replace my ampair , it did everything I wanted in terms of reliability, performance but it is too noisy. Up on deck it is fine but down below the noise is terrible, impossible to sleep in stern cabin from transmitted noise from generator.
My question yesterday refers and I wonder if anyone has first hand knowledge of the high tech 3 bladed genny's
The comment 'the newer the design the louder the kit' is worrying especially as new genny and regulator is £1300
Thanks
Keith

If this is the one i'm thinking of a friend bought one and had nothing but trouble with it.
That said it was the reg that caused the problems and they have since changed it.

it was fitted to the mizzen.

There was very little blade noise copared to my air-x, But it had stupid noises like squeaking when it turned in to the wind.
I didnt think it was a problem but it used to drive my friend mad

Gave a good output when going full chat

depends really what sort of output you want. The highest output is also the most expensive. However, the largest output also use the largest longest blades which turn more slowly, thus are quieter.

KISS and Duogen 400 have a good reputation.

I have an Air-X and it is both very efficient and very noisy (in terms of blade noise).

I got mine in the States for 400 quid and they are about 750-800 over here. I have mine mounted on the mizzen and it does sent a bit of rumble down into the cabin....However the good thing about the Air_X is that when the batteries are fully charged it 'shuts down' ie the rotor stops turning..just idles around. and also you can turn it off with a switch so its not running all the time. Actually i always switch mine off when I'm off the boat or sleeping.
