The grill worked fine for toast on Saturday morning but by Sunday morning the flame failure device cut the gas the gas off no matter how long I held the knob in. A bit annoying and surprising on a cooker just less than 2 years old.

Anyway, to the questions:

1) is replacing said item a diy job for a reasonably experienced owner (fitted gas cooker and replaced all teh gas lines myself)
2) secondly does anyone know where I can get one from - I can find plenty of adverts, from Socal for example, for the hotplate thermocouples but not for the grill!

Anyone had this problem themselves?

Regards

Andrew

Have tried these people:- http://www.thecaravanspecialists.co.uk/prodtype.asp?cookiecheck=yes&strPageHistory=cat&PT_ID=293

I had the same problem on a new Spinflo Nelson oven thermocouple that worked ok when the oven was fitted but stopped soon after the boat was launched and after the oven warranty period.
I bought a new one after contacting Nelson from their parts suppliers, went to fit it to find the retaining nut loose on the end coupling where it is attached to the valve. Tightened it, problem solved. Now have a spare but it is different from the grill one otherwise you could have it!
Fitting it would have been relatively straight forward.

Thanks guys - all very helpful. I now understand that the exact type of thermocouple depends on the serial number of the , mine would have been manufactured around the changeover date. So this will have to wait until I next visit the boat, which is one of the problems with living 2 hours from the boat! mind you I can check if tightening things up might solve the problem!

Regards

Take the old thermocouple out and take it to your local gas spares place. There is a chance that a universal type will fit. B&Q have them too. As long as the thread fits it should be OK

check first that the tip of the t/couple is in the flame and glowing cherry red if not then reposition.
if it is replace the t/couple.
if still does not work then it is the thermo eletric valve sometimes called a junkers valve
if you search online you should be able to find the parts at gasproducts.com
