Replacement washboards

You can only deter access and make a neighbouring boat look an easier option. As mentioned on the thread on battery powered angle grinders - they make most security devices and mechanisms a waste of time. You can cut through stainless steel bar, tube and 'U' bolts in seconds and anyone seriously wanting access will not be deterred (unless you are in a part of the world where battery operated angle grinders are scarce). And like outer space - no-one will hear you shout (or not quickly enough).

Deter the casual thief, the stainless steel bar will do that, and they will go to the next boat, but excessive security suggests there is something worth accessing.

Edit We did think of adding, say 10mm or 12mm, stainless wire inside stainless tube as it would then be very difficult to cut through - but never progressed to that step. It has to be obvious to the perpetrators that its a 2 fold security system - and I'm not sure how you demonstrate that to deter an attempt. But you need to do this on every hatch - and the yacht is now starting to look decidedly ugly (and difficult to exit in a hurry). close edit
