Hi all,

We have an early Cranchi CSL 28 an the teak decking needs to be replaced. The caulk has gone bad and its tacky so everyone gets black lines across their feet etc.

Does anyone know where I can get replacement decking, form a breakers maybe or something 3rd party. Its an older boat so am not keen on going through the main dealer.

Thanks,

You dont have to replace the whole teak deck, if its just the black caulking that has started fail.

You can just get it re caulked, they pick out the old caulking , re fill with new, then sand down the deck for a nice clean finish. Its not as cheap as you would think it should be though, I'm paying about £1k for the deck and bathing platform on a 25 foot boat

I've just had done this with my boat (2007 windy 25) for the same reason (black lines on feet and upholstry) , havent seen the end result yet, but I'm expecting it to look like new again.

I would be interested to know who did this for you? One minor problem is the boat is in Spain -mallorca to be specific.

I also read that sanding the teak can be bad because it take away some of the anti-slip... Though that was a sales pitch from one of those teak alternative places.

Many thanks, I appreciate you taking the time to reply!

Cheers,

Simon

Do you have solid teak, ie teak about 12mm thick or a teak veneer say 2 or 3 mm.

You cant sand teak veneer otherwise you bring out the true beauty of plywood.

I don't know but given its a fibre glass hull I would imagine it's just veneer.

I am leaning toward the replacement artificial stuff I think...

I suspect yours is not a veneer, all the cranchi's I've seen are proper teak.

My boat is also in Mallorca,so thats not a problem. I'm not sure of the name of the firm that is actually doing the teak work as its all being arranged by the chap out there that does all the servicing and other bits, but I'm sure if you just ask the workshop in your local marina, they will be able to recommend someone.

The chap that manages all the various bits of work my boat needs is called Andreu, from Ponent yates, based in Port Adriano.

His website is here, drop him an email and I'm sure he'll recommend someone.
