I second DickB now on my second boat with Maxi Roach in mast,8 years with never a jam.I did have a jam once with the old slab reefing system when the block at the mast head split.The harder I pulled the tighter it jammed,I just topped the boom up like the barges and wound a spare halyard around the mast until I could drop the mast .

Thanks for all your replies...I like a belts and braces approach...but I may well be short handed. Much food for thought here.

Where are you - your profile is blank....? A friend of ours has a HR42 with inmast and says he has no problems and if I knew where you are I would know whether to give you his details to chat about things and how he gets his to work....
