I've removed a damaged hose that takes raw water from the heat transferer towards the impeller on my Volvo MD 2010. The original seems to be a thick flexible rubber. Can anyone advise what I should replace this with? Internal diameter is 20mm.
Many thanks!

Raw water always goes from the sea to the impeller then to the heat exchanger, at least I’ve never seen anything different, not that it is relevant to the answer. I’d use exhaust rated hose. Reinforced and made to LLoyds and similar approvals.

ASAP supplies

Engine Coolant Hose and Heater Hose

There is a choice of 2 19mm hoses there. Read the descriptions and decide which is the more appropriate. Both refer to VP part numbers

Exhaust hose here

Approved Marine Wet Exhaust Hose

If you want to follow that advice

Thanks - you're quite right, I've just realised that myself looking at a diagram. But why then is the raw water taken from the sea cock, all the way underneath to the rear of the engine, where it goes into a metal tube, then exits another metal tube on the other side and loops back to the front to enter the impeller? Why can't it just go straight to the impeller?
Thanks!

Obviously you have a shaft drive ?
I think you are looking at the gearbox oil cooler, which is shown in the pictures at the front of your owners manual

Yep, mine goes through the gearbox cooler on the way to the raw water pump.

I have read it on here that you can use a reinforced clear hose so that you can see any blockage in the inlet. Given that it is full of cold water is there any problem with that?
