Replacement outboard for a Hunter Duette: which motors fit?

The Honda BF5 outboard on my Hunter Duette has given up the ghost and will have to be replaced. I have been recommended to replace it with a Tomatsu/Mariner/Mercury motor. Now getting the Honda motor into the well (its an 'inboard outboard) is a really awkward job, and I'm wondering whether anyone had experience of using these other motors in a Hunter Duette. Is there any problem fitting them into the existing space? I believe the Hunter Duette is based on the Hunter Sonata, so experience with the Sonata is relevant too. (I am told that the 4, 5 and 6 hp versions of these motors all have the same geometry, so selection of which model appears irrelevant, also I believe the integral fuel tank may be a problem, because the filler cap may stick up too far, and it would be impossible to shut the doors on top of the lazarette).

cheers

Hi Chris,

I replaced the BF5 in the well of my Duette a couple of years ago with a Tohatsu 6hp Saildrive. I think it's a much better engine. However, can't see that it would work with an internal fuel tank (mine's the external model), and I had to shave a bit off the edge of the hinged lids as it's a bit taller. Otherwise, fits very well.
