My old morse control has had it.

Am i missing something?

It seems to me all replacements available except vetus, which won't fit, are not sealed. Mine is at ankle level and i don't want a hole in the cockpit just covered by a clip on cover.

Thanks, as always, for all input. Very much appreciated.

My understanding, maybe i am mistaken, is that behind the clip on cover is an unsealed oblongish hole through which the mechanism has to be wiggled at installation.

I suspect that you will have to identify what you are trying to replace
Teleflex has become interchangeable with any marine control
Some are based on other makes ie branded
None were particularly well sealed but from your own unit you can get idea of life expectancy

I think this is, to all intents and purposes, water tight. 1979 vintage, i think. It is Morse.

Yes it’s Morse MI less the detent well past its use by date
Suspect not available in useable state
You could try a MV2 control the mechanism box is probably the same with an amendments
One avaible from us here
SEALED

Item is brand new. I sold another one of these that I opened to take pictures of what was actually inside of it. Item should be considered as new and has not been opened. Box does not have as much staining as the one in the one that was opened and pictured. This box does have a small stain on one corner as pictured in the last photo.

Again, the one pictured was sold. This are factory sealed, brand new in sealed box. The one that sold I used to take the pictures shown in the listing as to what is included.

Information gathered from research on the web:

MV-2 CONTROL

The MV-2 is the choice of competitive ski boat drivers and Jet Boat enthusiasts
It provides single-level control of both shift and throttle
Features:

Dual Function Single-Lever Control
Has a pullout clutch disengagement feature for warm-up
Built-in friction drag helps reduce throttle creep
Neutral interlock feature to help prevent accidental shifting
Neutral safety switch prevents starting in gear
Mechanical advantage - shift 2.91: throttle 3.20:1

The Teleflex Morse MV-2 Throttle Control is designed to provide convenient one-handed shift and throttle operation for outboards, inboard/outboards, and inboards with hydraulic or smaller (less than 15 pound shifting load) transmissions. MV-2 throttle controls are compatible with Teleflex 3300/33C type cables, Mercury and OMC type cables, as well as other top manufacturers.
The MV-2 features a Neutral Locking Hand Lever for safety. The only way to engage forward or reverse gear is by pulling up on the shift knob. Engine warm-up is achieved by pulling the hand lever outward to disengage the clutch mechanism, allowing the driver to control engine RPMs while in Neutral. The MV-2 is a favorite among ski-boat and jet-boat enthusiasts.

Sorry for mess but that is probably as good an option as any subject to cost
Thanks for that. Yes i have seen the mv-2 but my understanding was that it can only be installed in 'landscape' not 'portrait', if you see what i mean, in which case it won't fit. I need the mechanism to be vertical.

Not sure That you are correct as handle is mounted on 360’ spline but worth checking
They have a habit of seizing on spline if neglected though

If i remember correctly it wasn't actually the position of the handle that was the problem but the detente positions. So position of handle could shift, but tdc neutral wouldn't change relative to body. So if mounted upright neutral would be horizontal relative to body. I could have misunderstood.

What's wrong with this. I had a new one a year ago and it covers the original hole.
Seastar / Teleflex Single Lever Control Side Mount
I have just gone through this however due to stringer inside I custom mounted.

A friend has CNC cutter, he made a plastic plate to cover the hole. The 4 screw heads you can see are the securing bolts for Morse control behind.

This mounts the control more flush.

The plate is sealed with silicone.

A good thing as dogs wrap there teather round it and put it in gear if I am not careful.

Nice job and possibly less costly

That's great, thanks for posting. Really appreciated.

But, i guess that means whole unit is installed on the inside, does that mean the mechanism needs to be customised or packing of some sort? And isn't there an adjustable detente screw, or is that the tiny hole below the lever? Or do you just adjust once and forget?
Really good, thanks.

I put the whole unit inside a cockpit locker as I was sick of kicking it, or the mainsheet wrapping around it. Only needs to be open near land, generally. Sealed the hole in the cockpit side with a bit of plastic nicked from the weans.

Good idea, but unfortunately wouldn't work for me. Only the one locker and it is rammed.

Sadly no saving in costs for the OP, as it’s the same unit I just didn’t use the cover plate.
For me the control came with the boat bought by last owner, who probably couldn’t work out the resolution to the stringer problem.

We just won’t mention the hole I drilled in my thumb nail doing the job 😳

The MI had no adjustment
Is there any reason i can't just keep using this unit a while? The only problem with it is the detente spring is no longer contained. If i seal that with a little epoxy and put a cable clamp on the throttle cable surely i am good to go for a while?
