Hi

I am looking to replace a confirmed broken MCB for my hot water immersion element. At first look I thought it would be an easy task but I am struggling to find a like for like replacement, predominantly due to its small form factor.
I have (hopefully) attached a photo of the particular MCB. It is a Legrand C10 Double pole MCB and is marked 06017. The picture shows the space constraint I have within the enclosure and really need to replace like for like.
I have two questions:
1. Does anyone know of a source where I can find this exact part or equivalent for size etc. Ideal and easy :).
2. Is there a particular reason why this may be a double pole (neutral and positive switched) installation? For neatness of wiring due to existing wire lengths I would prefer not to move to a single pole - but would this be possible/advised if I can't source a direct 10A double pole replacement?

No extra benefit for an MCB on the neutral.

For a new consumer unit then I would highly recommend Chint - plenty of sellers on EBAY. We use their industrial stuff in our business - excellent quality and value.
 
Depending on whether it is RCD compliant craft it may have needed double pole MCB due to the possibility of reverse polarity, they are difficult to source singly but I have some Legrand DP MCBs of 10a value and single bay footprint if you are unable to source elsewhere.

Surely if you are going to fit an MCB in both wires then they should be physically linked so that if one trips it also trips the other. From the pic this does not seem to be the case?

Edit: Ah! I now see that you just mean the Legrand MCB in the middle. False alarm.

How about this one? The title is wrong, it is double pole. However it's type B10, I don't know the difference from type C10. I notice your Wylex breaker is type B.

Do you know anyone in France? Should be easily available there, double pole MCBs widely used.

Edit - type B has a lower instantaneous trip current than type C. Slow trip behaviour is the same. My reading is that you should be using type B. Type C is for high inrush current motors etc.

I bought some of these Double Pole MCB's to replace some broken ones on a French built coaster. I got them from Western Electrical Wholesalers, that are now part of Edmundsons http://www.edmundson-electrical.co.uk

They are French made either Legrand or MerlinGerin/Schneider.

If you look up Western Electrical at Treliske (Unit G, Treliske Industrial Estate, Oak Ln, Truro, Cornwall TR1 3LP 01872 223939), and phone them, they will be able to help you locate the item. Jog their memory, by telling them that some were purchased by the Isles of Scilly Steamship Co.

No problem, as you can use the same log-in as you do for the UK ebay. Same protection. I have ordered from the French and German ebay in the past.
