Replacement Mattress

Out of interest Wavey, which mattress did you go for? The mattress on ours kills my back so am looking to change it when we've got a bit of spare cash.

:)

It's a double interior pocket sprung mattress with a latex top. Although it's a double bed the mattress had to come in two halves to get it through the doors. They fitted Velcro so the mattresses can't move plus what they call a comfort flap which covers the join so once in bed it feels like a one piece mattress. Depth is just over 7 inches.

Impressive how they make them as ours is an island double so the outside edge is all curves.

Cost? I've just asked them for a quote for a simple small double in their Maximus model - like the fact that it is all natural fibres.

The mattress itself in two pieces with the Velcro join and comfort flap was £645 + VAT and carriage. Bear in mind I ordered it last year so the price may not be current.

Good timing on this update, as I've just ordered a new mattress from them for our master cabin. We've ordered the standard pocket sprung model, as I was told (by a bed salesman) that tempur style mattresses get hotter because the covering can't breathe. No idea if that's true, but it sounded feasible.

The maximus model looks super comfy, but is too thick for our bed.

Anyone had the basic model that can comment on how comfy it is, as it's not too late to change?

Good point about the fitted mattress protector as well. I've ordered fitted sheets but forgot about that, so will add one to the order.

The latex is only an inch or two on the top for added comfort so, coupled with the mattress protector I think you should be ok but perhaps check with Sharon @ Wizard.

I'm of an age where I get hot nights (no sniggering in the back row please :)) and have slept on the new mattress for about a dozen or so nights without a problem whereas I have suffered with it at home.

I'm thinking of very warm nights in a med summer, when keeping cool is a real challenge. I don't like to run the genny and aircon all night at anchor if I can avoid it, so I don't think i'm going to risk the viscose.

Forgot you were based in the Med so probably better without.

We ordered our new mattress from Shipshape bedding in Norfolk, met them on their stand at Excel Boat show, nice friendly bunch. They had a couple of sample mattress on the stand and I went for the firm option. I did not have SWMBO with me and we decided to visit their showroom while in Norfolk so she could also try the firmness. Glad we did as it was not firm enough for her and ended up ordering extra firm. Spent our first night on it last weekend and had an excellent nights sleep.
