You mention sailcovers for £240 they are available on ebay for £70 to fit the longbow maybe not the top quality but they work.

Really ? I despair. How good do you think they'll be when any decent sailmaker wants double that just to re-stitch mine ? I thought you wanted to do the boat up to keep ?

Secondhand engine, with parts to fit £2000
Standing rigging £1000
Upholstery £1000
New furler £1000
New genoa £1500
Running rigging £500
Seacocks, hoses, wiring etc £1000
Minimal electronics £500

That's just the big lumps, and i didn't add in a new main sail. That adds up to nearly the value of a Longbow and doesn't take into account the myriad of other things you'll find to spend your money on.

You clearly don't want to listen to any of the good advice you've been given and some of your comments demonstrate that you are very naive, so i'll wish you well with your project and bow out of this one.

I am afraid you will quickly discover the downside of buying low quality gear like that. Almost certainly fall apart within 2 years maximum.

Doing up old boats is like public sector projects. Do careful budgets for what you think it is going to cost, then double it and you might get near the eventual cost. And it will take 3 times as long as you think.

Saving money by doing up an old boat sounds appealing. In reality it can cost more than getting a loan and buying a well sorted one.

I am most of the way through this process with a Centaur, the above costs are conservative.

I've found that its the little things that add up, crimps, cable, pipe and fittings etc etc . Imho its not possible to make a profit when restoring a boat - its gotvto be a labour of love. Youve also got to decide whether to sail the boat youve got or restore the one you want. Some like sailing, some prefer 'fettling'.

My last word on the subject. At the last count I have carried out sixty jobs on my Centaur. The boat was not a project and I wasn't aware of most of them when I started.
