Can anyone advise if there are any specific requirements for the sounder on a craft of less than 12 metres? Computer incompetence [i.e. mine] prevented me from obtaining info. from MCA site.

I think there are only regs if you are coding the boat for commercial use.

Annex III of the "Collision regulations" sets out the technical details. Including such things as the frequency range ( based on vessel length) , sound intensity and audible range, directional properties and positioning of what they term "whistles"

Essentially for vessels under 75 metres the "whistle" should have a frequency in the range 250 to 700 Hz and for vessels under 20metres should have an audible range of 0.5 nautical miles
