yes I know !!! the huddle is nearly as old as I am!
i have difficulty with smart phones; both finger and eye problems and really like to work with something of tablet size. ( 7" screen ?)
I just need to do emails, use the internet, use my bank, get NHS apps and so on. I can do a lot of this on my huddle but it is very slow and a lot of apps dont work.
So suggestions appreciated please and at a price suitable for an OAP !!

I liked my Hudl, it did most of what I needed. It got sat on and died. I bought an Amazon Fire to replace it, very disappointed, not a patch on the Hudl.

Samsung Galaxy Tab A8 8 Inch Wi-Fi Android Tablet 32 GB (UK Version)

About £122 for the 8" - we have one (the 10" version) and bought one for the FIL. Very good. The 10" version gives you the bigger screen.

The new Samsung Galaxy tab A7 Lite (8.7") looks even better - and seems to be available in the UK edition for £109 from Amazon.

Still searching so I will try to revive the thread.
Just returned from Spain where I persevered with the Hudl. My wife was using her Samsung smart phone.... what a difference, she had things on screen in seconds versus minutes on the Hudl !!
When it came to filling in our online uk travel form I could not do it on the Hudl, we had to use her phone. Even then there was an issue as we were told that we just needed to show the travel form front page ( with the QR code) We therefore had that page easily accessible on her phone however Ryanair boarding team insisted on seeing the whole document which was fortunately still on my wife's email.
So when next I travel on my own I want a tablet that is much faster than the Hudl and on which I can 'do the necessary' on these travel forms. The Samsung Galaxy tab A7 mentioned by Bristolfashion looks OK but has anyone any other suggestions. I still use my old NOKKIA phone but something I could use as a phone ( with an App) would be useful.

I was given an Amazon Fire a few years back. It struck me as dedicated to Amazon, which gets in the way of its usefulness, but the killer for me was the absence of GPS. Milady now watches Netflix and IPlayer stuff on it. I'm going to be getting a tablet for navigation over the next few months, and I my first stop will be London Chartplotters

I've also been looking at Android tablets and particularly the Samsung Galaxy Tab A7, albeit in the larger (10.4") model. However the UK versions of the A7 only come with 32GB of internal storage, which I don't believe leaves enough 'headroom' necessary for the apps and whatever else will accumulate over the hoped for life of the tablet. I'm therefore holding back until Samsung sell 64GB models in the UK, or another suitable alternative comes along.

I am in similar position, have a Hudl2 that is struggling on its last legs.

I bought one of these a couple of years ago.
Seems to work for my needs although I have no expertise in tis field.
(1) neocore E1 10.1'' HD Android Tablet — neocore.store

That's a lower spec than Hudl2, which illustrates how good the Hudl2 was, especially its 1900x1200 display, which even today is hard to match - many have only 1200x800 as does the Neocore. I also think you need considerably more than the 16Gb (which was as much as the Hudl2 had) if you want to be able to add a decent amount of apps. Hudl2 also had faster quad-core processor (in clock speed terms).

I use an old Samsung Tab S2 8".
It has 32Gb storage on board and I use a 128Gb Micro SD card
Display resolution is 1536 x 2048 pixels @ 320ppi
It has GPS (essential for charts) and works very well in all respects...Except it has a tendency to overheat in direct sunlight!

I got a Samsung Galaxy Tab A8 quite recently from Littlewoods Ireland for something in the region of about €120-€130, but just looking at their UK website now reveals that the cheapest is £199, with the majority of them are at astronomical (to me) prices.
According to information gleaned on this forum it has GPS, but I haven't tested this aspect yet.

The Hudl2 is still my favourite device for running Navionics, primarily because its screen is so good, it works well with my Quark AIS, and you can put a big microSD card in to store data, media and pics. At some point the ancient Android 5.1 OS will become incompatible with the apps I want to use, but until then, the favourite replacement would be a cheap S/H one from ebay. A ridiculous amount of capability for about £20.

I'd agree with that to some extent, a slow processor doesn't matter too much for navigation at less than 10 knots. However, my bugbear is that the screen is invisible in any amount of sunlight. How do you overcome that?
