Need to replace 2 control cables, throttle & gear shift. They are likely to be the original cables (boat 22 years old), the boat had a Yanmar 13 hp but was replaced with 25 hp Beta a couple of years ago, still using same cables.

The cables are grey and have TX controls printed on them. Additionally they both have numbers on them 9406 and 9417.

One is about 6 feet long and the other is 7 feet.

You will understand I am hoping to find cables that are a direct replacement. I can provide additional information, measurements etc if required.

Thanks

Mike

You need to be more precise with the measurements - measure from the end of the threaded rod to end of threaded rod at the other end (not the casing). Look on the ASAP site , they offer two qualities ,the 330X super claims to reduce friction by 40%. You probably have the standard 330 now.

33c type cables if about 2mtrs then no need for more expensive types
Measure overall length will be nearest. 0.25 metre or less likely feet
Make sure you fit exactly as the come of take photos for reference adjustment is probably best done with. Control in slow ahead detent.

I bought two in 2013 from Marine Scene, Bridgend. They were the best priced at the time and Richard Jones of MS was very helpful in making sure I got the right ones.

Have not been able to find the 330x super cable on ASAP or anywhere else?. Would be happy to pay more for superior cables if I could find them.

Still struggling to determine whether replacements will fit. Suppliers are economical with the specifications of the cables and fittings. My grey cable measures 8.3mm OD and it fits into a stainless steel sleeve which is 10.2mm OD which fits into the saddle clamps on the engine and gear box. The solid stainless steel rod in the centre is +/- 2mm OD.

I read the threads are UNF. M4 nuts will not go on and M5 nuts are a loose fit.

I have tried to find specifications of 33c cables but no luck

Standard 33c cables will be fine. Threads are not relevant as they only fit on the cables, not on the fitments on the engine or gearbox. The fitments into the control unit and the saddle clamps at the engine end are all the same.

Having difficulty understanding why the threads are not relevant. I already have off my old cables 2x 6.4mm brass cable end fittings and 2x quick release ball joints which are both internally threaded to screw onto the threaded ends of the new cables. If the threads are different I will need to purchase new cable end fittings and ball joints. However you may be aware that the threads have always been the same. Explains why M4 and M5 nuts do not fit?

What I can say for sure is that the threads on my old cables are cut onto 4.7mm OD rod.

I would be very surprised if the fittings on the Beta are not compatible with the cable. If you have somehow used very old fittings then suggest you buy new ones. Pretty sure all 33c fittings ends are all the same and have been for many years. I had no problem using 1995 cables straight onto a 2010 Nanni, having previously been on a 1988 Yanmar.

Are the cables the same at each end if so stop fretting this one of the few cases in life that you can be re that any cable Likely to be stocked will be to the same as the original Morse 33c
As I said don’t bother with deluxe cables. At that length you will not notice any difference

Thanks Jim,

I had found those but thought they were the standard type.

I conclude that control cables must be a pretty standard type/fit with Teleflex leading the way in the 60,s and any other manufacturers copying the design. When I first posted I thought there might have been a large variation.

Thanks all

Actually teleflex UK were crap until bought out by Morse as the outer covering was brittle
