Afternoon all,
Please can anyone advise me on finding a replacement Bowden cable / gear control for a '70's? Detroit Diesel engine and chunky cockpit control.

The old cable was covered in metal sheath/skin and had a constant run of 'teeth' (throughout its length) with a diameter of 7mm (on the outside of the 'teeth') and 5mm on the gaps between the 'teeth'. There are 7 'teeth' per inch.

I have tried to find ref. numbers on the cable and gear control but have been unable. The engine is a 185hp inboard.

The existing cable was 822cm long and had 26cm of uncovered "teeth" at the helm and 50cm of uncovered "teeth" at the gearbox.

I have tried several knowledgable firms without success. Also, please let me know the correct terminology for 'teeth'?
Thanks.

I suspect you might have more luck on one of the more American biased forums.

In the UK I'd try ASAP Supplies, Lancing Marine and maybe the Detroit Diesel people in Romsey near Southampton I think.

Can you not get a Morse cable to fit?

do you mean a spiral wrap cable if so send photos including what it connects to ie control and gear connection and sizes to hindlecontrols
it sounds like it could be an old teleflex control

Thanks for your suggestions, I'll be giving the companies you mentioned a go.
I tried a couple of firms which sold morse cables and they didn't seem to have anything suitable.
Cheers again.
