repeat timothy spall bbc4 8pm 2 may today

His radio exchange with Liverpool would have been funny if it wasn't for their evident concern over his (lack of) navigation skills.

Is this a set-up by the program makers? He annoys me. My swmbo tells me to lighten up....but I just don't get it.

I'm just reading the book now - Its interesting and i'm not really a reader.

We missed someone of them when he was round the welsh coast, they dont seem to have been repeated yet or on tinternet.

All those charts and plotters, and he still couldn't see the massive training wall he was about to drive straight over the top of.

Wasn't till I went to look up this chart that I realised what was going on. As presented, it just seemed like the port control were being pedantic about their procedures.

I noticed that the first program last night ended with him in Porth Dinllaen and the second started with him 'having left Conwy. What happened in between I wonder? Some interesting navigation left out? Or maybe it wasn't broadcastable? Anyone know?

Lot of all the series like that maybe they had elves .. or perhaps they only had the camera man there for part of the time and wanted to enjoy the trip privately or maybe .... maybe its in de book

Seen all the progs before. Great entertainment. What puzzles me is that even if TS had gone to Lune No1 by HT rather than Lune Deep, he still wouldn't have had time to get up the Lune channel in time to enter Glasson Dock. Also, why didn't he go to Fleetwod as an alternative? Still, if he planned meticulously everytime and allowed himself plenty of time for the sailng legs, the programme would not be as entertaining, and would deny me the opportunity of showing off to SWMBO.

If you read Shane Spall's book, (a very good read I should add and amazingly honest about some aspects of their earlier life) you will find that they have only filmed some legs of the journey and quite often the circuit had breaks where they left the boat and went back to fulfil work commitments etc

I am sure the filming plays it up a little for the tension, but they do seem the kind of people that just go for it and learn more in the doing than beforehand. Not for me, but tend to admire their "chutzpah" all the same. And they seem like nice people and obviously hugely supportive of each other. Altho they have called on the RNLI for help, they dont really do it thoughtlessly and are tremendous supporters of that organisation & the CG. Bravo for them in the round.
