repairing wayfarers

im in uni and have to do an assignment of writing how to do repair 10 jobs to a wayfarer (i dont actually have to do them), i was just wondering if anybody knew of any good websites which have lot of instructions and information by any chance?

You don't need to have specific Wayfarer skills for this project until you have worked out the basic GRP, stainless steel wire for fabrication, or woodwork / ropework procedures needed to deal with a Wayfarer.

I suggest

woodwork - laminating, varnishing, epoxy filling, adding non-slip to the floorboards
stainless - wire work inc cutting and terminals; sheet steel work inc brackets for pulleys, shroud and stay plates
GRP - crazing, holes, delaminating, cutting holes for new buoyancy hatches, polishing, and blending colours
ropework - splicing and reeving new halyards and sheets, whippings, wire to rope splice

Then there is the quaint old information resource called a LIBRARY, where you can see BOOKS, where you can READ and LOOK AT pictures and word without using any electrickery. ( /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif )

Then apply the techniques to parts of the Wayfarer.

Do not forget that a lot were marine ply. Think about a transom repair (ingress of moisture from the end grain. Rot can also start from an area of high stress, eg where people stand, so also consider cutting out a soft area, and the mend.

hey, thanks for the advice, im still finding it pretty hard to find any proper step by step information on how to do jobs. i think i probly should look at some books but everyone else in my course have taken out all the relevant books on the subject at my library, the buggers.
the jobs iv chosen to do are
Repainting hull
Patch up keel – rubbing straight copper band, keel band
Repair hole in hull
Replace rubbing strake (tubing)
Replace inner decking floor
Fix/replace daggerboard (both how much comparison)
Mend benchs varnish
Replace ropes
Clean inner part deck (or whole boat)
Patch up mast step
anybody know any step by step procedures on the net for this? thanks anyway, looks like im gnna have a late night doing this tonight, uni fun, haha.

With such a long list I'd venture that the boat is due for a viking funeral.

There is bound to be a better one lurking unloved at the back of a dinghy park somewhere.

its not actually that damaged, iv jus got to pretend it is and write up how to do the jobs, iv jus found a load of practical boat owner magazines with sum useful articles, there is hope, haha
