Repairing Lifejacket Bladders

Thanks for the feedback folks, that’s what I expected but I thought it worth checking before retiring the lifejacket. I’ll chop it up before binning it, so no one is tempted to reuse it.

The lifejacket is about six years old and has been used but not abused. On closer inspection the pin prick hole is where two folds meet at right angles, and appears to have worn through.

Very pleased to see you make that decision. But if the lifejacket is one of a pair or set of the same age, who will use the new one, who will get the old one? Are the old ones about to leak as well? You dont know what you dont know. I'd replace the lot.

Everybody says bin it and I agree. I had a similar problem 3 years ago, and tried various patches and glue combinations to repair the hole. none really worked sufficiently well to give me complete confidence. After 3 months just worrying about it I just bought new ones. I bargained down at a boat fair for 2 auto-inflatable with built in harnesses and go them for £30 each so was well pleased.

I agree but I would have got a new one with light and spray hood which I consider essential. Mine's a Crewsaver which I understand is what the RNLI use.
