How the heck do you get the round disc thingy that the side rope goes through back into the round part which is bonded to the dinghy tube ?

One of mine has come out and the seat bracket is held in the same way at its pulling out too. Its a Valiiant rib if that helps

Please tell me there is an easy solution and I hope someone knows what I am on about !

This is not very helpful, I'm afraid. I had a Valiant rib before this one and I just can't make out what you're asking.

Do you mean the lifting rope on the outside of the tube with multiple attachments or the seat holder?

Perhaps a picture might help. :ambivalence:

yes , the lifting ropes but the seat holder is attached by the same method. The is a round disc bonded onto the tube which has a slot in it. The rubber hoop for the rope has a round disc which pushes through the slot.

Hard to describe , will try and get some pics

Looks to me like the part glued to the boat has stretched, and therefore there is no point forcing the other bit in as it will just pull out again. Much better imho to remove the part that is glued to the boat and discard it, and glue on some new rope attachment eyes using 2-part contact adhesive. Alternatively, remove the bit that is glued to the boat and re-make it from a piece of hypalon* and glue the new one on over the part that is attached to the rope (I mean, don't try to insert the part that is attached to the rope afterwards)

*Or PVC if your boat is PVC. you need to work out which it is so you buy the right patches and the right glue

Parts including glue and hypalon/pvc from www.inflatableboatparts.com, and these are ready-made eyelets

Thanks for all the replies. Heat it up with a heat gun and applied some fairy liquid and got it back in. It may come back out but will avoid pulling it by these ropes .

You did well to get it back in. I can now see whet you were trying to describe and I've never seen one pull out like that.

As suggested above, get some replacements. It won't be long before some numpty will pull it off and drop the boat or outboard on someone's foot.

You must make sure to get the right material and glue as mentioned by JFM above. Also, if you doing it yourself, you want to be in a warm place and sheltered.

It's very easy job for a Rib repairer but not so for DIY. :ambivalence:

I pulled it off myself while swimming off the back of the boat in Ardminish Bay on Ghia last year :redface-new:

Will be more carefull now and just hope the weather is the same when we get there this year !
