Hi all,

Water has recently started leaking from the back of my Beta 30 impeller housing - a steady trickle at this point. From looking at a few of the other YBW threads on the topic it would appear the water seal on the pump (Johnson f4b-9 10-24629-01 1205) is in need of replacing. I’m currently on the move (in Norway) and am wondering if folk have suggestions on a temporary fix I can do while sourcing the relevant spare part (I spoke with the team at ASAP supplies and I believe this is the piece I need: Johnson 09-20-543 Pump Seal for 3/4" and 1" Johnson Pumps).

I’ve taken three photos - one of the pump and its shaft (bearings seem in good order as does the oil seal and so will leave those as is); second photo is of the various pieces that comprised the water seal - a spring seal (which seems to still be in okay condition), a ceramic ring (which slots in to the underside of the spring seal / side furthest from the impeller and which has broken), a thin (I believe copper) metallic ring (which I found on the upper side of the spring seal / side closest to the impeller and which is also broken); third photo is the spring seal upside down, showing where the broken ceramic ring slotted in.

Are there any suggestions on a patch fix that I could implement while waiting for the spare part to come in? Could I just throw an O-Ring on the shaft to act as the water-side seal? Given the spring seal itself seems in okay condition, I could replace the broken ceramic ring (that is inserted at the bottom of that spring) with a rubber O-Ring. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Many thanks,

Dustin
