I've traced a fault in my Raymarine ST 40 speed display to a broken wire at the transducer, the problem is that the break is flush with the top of the transducer making resoldering impossible. Is it possible to disassemble the transducer to remake the connection inside the unit?

I have actually spent an hour or so carving away at the top of the potting of the log transducer where the wire goes in, to get at the ends of the wire on a friend's boat. In that case, corrosion had destroyed the screen on the wiring.
We managed to make contact about 10mm down and solder new wires on to the ends of the screened wire. As far as I know it is still working. We re-potted the wire with hot-melt glue.
