hello all,

not really boaty, got an old but much loved Alessi electric espresso machine (type RS03) which is the only one wife wants to use. Well, after 20+ yrs it's getting on a bit.
Latest failure is that an o-ring type (but not quite) gasket sealing the group head to the body split a bit on a spot. Now, steam/water drips of there messing the machine internals (less) and the coffee itself (more)
I can get a high temp oring at the size but I'm worried that because its going to be placed in a groove facing down it's going to drop after a couple of espressos.
The original gasket has a tiny lip on the inside that helps it seal and stay put in place.

Alternative #1 get some sealant and patch/fill the 0.5mmX10mm split
Alternative #2 get a new o-ring and a high temp (guess silicone based) glue thing to hold it in place.

Possibly both alternatives sealant/glue is going to be the same, so asking if you're familiar with such a thing. Of course I could use gasket sealant (you know the red or black stuff) not sure how that will "improve" the coffee taste tbh in #1, maybe good for #2 as it's not going to be in the path of the steam.

Obvs have checked, couldn't get any spares. I'd rather get a proper seal set (only two in the machine) and be done with!

cheers

sure, though I'd forgotten that there's a "diffuser" bolting on top of the lot which actually comes over (a bit!) the seal, so keeps it nicely tucked in.
Ended up buying a super expensive viton (sp?) high temp o-ring for 2euro and put it back together, seems to work, will make an espresso later.

Memory's fading, this "special" o-ring may actually be a bog standard one I put on 5-10yrs ago and have forgotten as this "lip" I thought it had could have been made by the hot diffuser setting in coffee after coffee in the o-ring...

With that groove I'd have just increased the thickness of the O-ring in steps until it sealed; a semicircular groove like that is 99 times out of 100 for an ordinary O-ring.
