Hello all,
Someone offered to help us with a restoration/repaint of a boat and decided to up and leave half way... leaving us with a lot of unfinished work!
Here's what we did so far:
- took out all the seacocks
- sanded the hull right down to the fibregalss
- sanded the keel right down to the metal and coated it with epoxy
- sanded the freeboard down to the coat
Immediate "problems":
- The freeboard/gelcoat has not been sanded perfectly. will filling it with epoxy resin, smoothening and sanding the imperfections help? and suggestions / methods?
- We've got the paint, but are not sure if it enough, where it goes and if we're missing a gelcoat. Paint:
-- 3 International - Primer - Interprotect - Lt 2,5 - White
-- 2 International - Enamel - Interdeck - Lt 0,75 - White
-- 1 Veneziani - Primer - Propeller Primer - Lt 0,25 - Gray
-- 1 Veneziani - Antifouling - Propeller - Lt 0,25 - White
-- 1 International - Danboline - Lt 0,75 - White
-- 1 Stoppani - One-pack enamel - Clipper - Lt.0,75 - White
-- 2 VC offshore EU 2lt
-- 4 International Tar2 Primer (for VC)
Are we missing the waterline strip paint? in which order should we apply all this?
Long term questions:
It seems that very few people use VC offshore antifouling EU in Malta (supplier did not even have it in stock and asked why we chose this...the guy helping us swore by it), for some reason people use Micron all the time. Is it easy to change to Micron after a while (paint on the tar2)?
I've got so many more questions...but I guess that's all for now. I think we'll manage with applying the paints, but want to be certain we get the right order now that we've spent nearly one month sanding
Also, we've found silicone between the hull and keel. The keel is inserted into the hull, the guy removed the silicon and inserted epoxy resin into the gap.. isn't it suppose to be flexible?
