rented a narrowboat for a few weeks, looking for help finding moorings & laundromats.

(I couldn't find any recent posts about laundromats so I am making this one, if i missed one and creating a duplicate, sorry;( please point me to it))
let me share what I have found out so far.

Pangbourne - has a laundromat not far from the station. coin operated
Maidenhead ~300 meters west of the bridge, next to Domino's pizza, not self service, but they charged ~12 pounds price for ~16 lbs weight, including folding, an ok deal. (took them a day)

---

moorings -- Cookham is nice, as is Henley. (nice by our standards == place for the kids to play around on the grass outside)
Bourne End (south side of the river, east of the bridge. ) -- muddy and uncomfortable

in Henely last week we paid for the moorings at the parking lots, like the sign said , but when we walked by other boats it seemed like we were the only ones.

what's the mooring like in Marlow? (there's two places right? )
----
oh and another question - in Hurley lock, we couldn't operate the drinking water, what's the secret?
------

thanks for the restaurant thread . will read

Laundromat about 100 yards up from Wallingford Bridge on the right. Also there used to be one at Benson Cruiser Station but I don't know if that is still there.

I'm trying to convince my wife to take in washing too but last time she did someone's underpants got loose and bit her on the leg. You could contact Jeremy Kyle too as he has loads of Scrubbers on his show.

thanks,

meanwhile we also did some laundry at marlow.
more expensive then maidenhead,
about 15 pounds a load, not self service at Zest, corner of station road and the high street

Pangbourne - towards Rlwy Station. Nice meadow moorings, playground nearby and great Butchers and useful old fashioned DIY shop.

15 quid !!!! Bl**dy N*r*h, is that what they charge for a service wash these days? i wondered how Dot Cotton was managing in these straightened times ! :d

yes 15 !!
we had 2 loads,
~20 KG of stuff, mostly muddy kids stuff.
we had not had anything clean and or dry to put on the kids, so we didn't really have a choice.

we just moored in Pangbourne meadow 15 minutes ago,
will stay here for a bit

Take it easy, your on Red Boards and in a NB !!

I was on the 08:59 Swindon to Paddington train last Wednesday and saw a narrow boat maneuvering, (i.e. was trying to turn or moor or something and not just underway), somewhere around Tilehurst at about 09:30. Was that you? I remember being jealous that somebody else was on the river and I was at work.

As Dash says, you need to be careful at the moment.

Alot of water coming down from where you are with levels rising. Make sure you are well tied up tonight. Trees are good. I tend to throw the anchor out anyway.:)

Anchor - good idea. thanks.

we are currently tied to the wooden mooring posts, and I'd rather not move, the trees behind us are occupied anyway,
yes there is a lot of water. (just got higher today)
(Lock keeper at Mapledurham had warned us on Sunday morning (~10ish)) that he is about to go to Whitchurch and open that lock, and he expects that we will soon have redboards, and possibly a flood on the meadows, but we said thanks, called the boat yard, and went on anyway. (kids are happiest in mud ) we figured if we we'll be stuck for a few days might as well be in a place where we have some facilities (and mud)

wasn't my last Wednesday, last Wednesday we were in Marlow

Nice spot Pangbourne. Always spend a couple of nights there.

Well Changed our plans,
cut the trip short by a week,
had one of the guys from the boatyard drive us back from Pangbounre.
it was getting a bit dodgy , we had less than 10 inches left before the meadows were flooded with no outlook of better conditions for a week.

so, this is just to say good bye for now, and thank all you guys

Definately a good decision. Hope the conditions do not put you off returning.
