i would like to do something with the decking on my colvic northener which although sound has seen better days.
it has had several coats of anti slip paint which in one or two areas has started to lift resulting in unsightly repair joins when repainting.
Deck is approx 8ft x10ft.
has anyone used one of the simulated teak flooring covers ,or similar.
has anyone found a reasonably priced alternative to give a wood planking effect.
ideally I would remove the entire roof and rebuild with all new timber but at 76 i want to enjoy using the boat whilst still breathing!

Hi Frank,

drop me a PM, we are about to do the same with our boat. I have been contacted by a manufacturer (North American and with an excellent reputation) who are looking for a UK distributor as the incumbent dealer is useless.

I am getting the decking at trade price (now I know the profit margins for artificial decking?), if you want some, let me know. I own a UK based manufacturing company making medical devices and we are an approved NHS supplier, our subsidiary company is in maintenance and we are exploring going into marine decking and flooring, this will be the company that will distribute this product.

Have a read of this thread.
I've been making and installing my own synthetic teak panels.

DIY Synthetic Teak
This was the thread that inspired me to research the same!

I went down the usual route of contacting the various UK dealers for decking and I have to say, the response has been woeful. During my search, I came across a very well known North American manufacturer of decking who has been pulling their hair out at the lazy response from the UK suppliers After they have supplied countless leads requiring follow-up.

In all, I have contacted 9 different companies and only 2 responded, with one quote for £3k just for 3.5 sq mt!

Thanks Hurricane, brilliant thread?

Doesn't help me, I'm afraid - I'm too committed to Trakmark's product.
But I do understand your frustration.
I did some similar research and Trakmark was really my only option for DIY decking.
When you are able, I would like to see/know more about the American product that you are referring.
If you would like some help or advice from an enthusiastic hobbyist, just let me know (PM or on the open forum).
I think you have to be careful.
There is a lot of manpower involved and stocking the product won't be as simple as you would have thought.
There are lots of different profiles to stock and probably in several different colours.
I would have thought that an American manufacturer would have been the wrong place to consider - carriage costs would be very high - this stuff is quite heavy.
A better solution would be to develop your own using a local extruding company.
In deed, this is what Trakmark have done over the years.
Anyway, if I can be of any help, just let me know.

Appreciate the help.

Very interested to hear more about the product as I will be replacing the teak on the swim platform of a Cranchi Smeraldo 37 at the end of next season.
