Hi all

My recently purchased Sailmaster 845 currently named "Addiction" was originally called "Aqua-Fae"

I am slipping it in a couple of weeks and i prefer the original name to the the current one so i think i will rename it back to the original name

Some say it is bad luck to rename a boat but surely going back to the original name should not upset the Sea Gods

Regards Don

all boats deserve girls names

Rationality and boat ownership. Hmmm!

I'd go back to the original name as all boats are some sort of addiction!

Have some fun with naming dinghies. I owned a boat called 'Old Scotch' so her dinghy became 'and water'.

I read some time ago that you should do the following:

1. Offer something to the sea gods (wine, rum, etc)
2. Destroy all paperwork and mentions of the old name that you hold onboard (this may be tricky)

It seems that the Sea god Poseidon (Neptune) likes clarity in paperwork and mixed-up references are out of the question...

I believe that if you stick to the correct procedure, you may sail happily and safely under the auspices of the sea gods.

I've done it in the past with my previous boat and here I am!

;)

A tot of rum over the side for Neptune on re-christening followed by a good party and a tot over the side at launch every season is all that's required, and do pat or kiss your boat whenever you leave her - Fair Winds ! :)
