Dear All,
I've just bought a small motor boat powered by a Nanni 5.250 TDi, through a Technodrive TM 345A gearbox. Fitted to the gearbox, at the factory, is a Technodrive Trolling Valve.
When told of this setup, my friends took sharp intakes of breath (similar to a builder/ plumber/electrician I once knew) and told me to be very careful when using this mechanism.
I then read the addendum to the Technodrive Service Manual and have not slept since.
As I do not intend trolling, I would like to remove the Bowden cable and in doing so, eliminate the possibility of inadvertently engaging this valve at the wrong time. The lever on the valve box and the end of the Bowden cable appear to be rusted into a horizontal position, as the actuating knob in the cabin does not seem to move the lever. So my questions are:-
1) Is it possible to just remove the cable, or do I have to dismantle elements of the valve box?
2) If I remove the cable, how can I fix the lever in a position for normal cruising?
3) The lever is shown in two positions. One in the Service Manual and one in the addendum. Which is the correct position for normal motoring?
I have dismantled car engines and gearboxes in my time, but that was with the aid of Haynes Workshop manuals. Unfortunately the "workshop manuals" on this gearbox that I have downloaded from the relevant web sites, do not deal with the subject of removing the Trolling Valve. Hence my reticence to dismantle, before seeking advice.
By the way, I have asked the UK suppliers, but have yet to receive an acknowledgement, let alone a reply.
Any help would be gratefully received.
John
