I am about to renew the standing rigging - all original removed save the forestay. It looks on the face of it that the Plastimo furling gear ie the foils have to be dismantled to get the forestay out. Anyone confirm that please?

Yes, I am sure the one I did was the same as your set up, you either have to take the foils apart as the terminals do not go through the joints or get a rigger to change in situ where he can chop the ends of and run a new wire.
I took the option of dismantling as I had no rigger near by, if possible don't go for this option as it turned out to be much more of a job than I initially thought.

I had a rigger come and replace the forestay. I have the same model Plastimo. Took him 20 mins and cost £60. More than happy with the quality and standard of work
