A friend did some varnish work for us in the spring, and unfortunately he was not very tidy and there are quite a lot of splashes and drips. It would be very laborious to scrape them all off, and where it is a bit smeared perhaps impossible.

I had hoped to be able to use a paint stripper product, Owatrol Safestrip, but discover that the varnish was a polyurethane type and therefore impervious to stripper.

Does anyone have any other suggestions, or is it down to scraping carefully?

TIA

I have successfully used Diall and similar varnish stripper from BnQ or Homebase, it contains benzoyl alcohol, looks like white emulsion. ,maker says leave 1 hour, 2 or 3 more like it. It doesn't say if it's GRP compatible tho, just looked at container. It seems quite benign compared to nitromors. Maybe test a bit inconspicuous....?

Polyurethane is the name usually used for 2 pack paint that hardens like a resin and is only removable by mechanical means. However urethane is also used as a filler for ordinary 1 pack paint or varnish which may be softened by paint strippers. I would try acetone on it first to see if that softens the varnish. If it is 2 pack be prepared to put up with mess or paint over it with a 2 pack or other deck paint. olewill

Definitely not two pack. It is International Compass which is described as Polyurethane.
Thanks for suggestions.

Not sure if it will work on spilt varnish but Y10 seems to work best for removing stains on GRP, I have tried many others but come back to the Y10. paint it on with a brush wait for 10 minutes and clean off, make sure when using the temperature is above 10 degrees.
