Not a boatie problem, but could be, so ...

The aircon compressor on my car has failed. Not a major problem; a new one is on its way. However, when it failed, by seizing, the belt continued to run round it or a minute or two before disintegrating and the heat generated melted it. As a result, the power steering pump pulley, which it goes round next, is thoroughly coated with resolidified but still sticky rubber. There is a bit on the crankshaft pulley too.

Any good short cuts for getting rid of this or is it a case of mechanical removal with a screwdriver or chisel?
