Removing non-slip paint

I've just bought a GRP sailing cruiser and the previous owner has painted all the deck and cockpit with International non-slip paint.
Now that's ok on the non-slip treads but I would like to remove it from between these and also the cockpit sides.
What can I use to get it off and what should I repaint with to get back to a nice shiny smooth finish?

Its only a thought, and I don't know the International contact number, but perhaps they could advise you on a paint remover or a system that doesn't attack the gelcoat.
