Morning all,

I have read most of the posts on this issue, but they all seem quite old.

What are the current thoughts about cleaning mildew from a canvas cockpit cover?

I have posted 2 pictures to show the level of filth.

Many thanks

Paul

Having got to this stage it may not fade completely but you would be surprised at how effective PM can be. As said, paint it on, but don't wash it off and let the rain do the rest.

Thin bleach diluted 50:50 with water. Brush it on. Watch the mildew disappear in a few minutes. Hose if off. Do not leave the bleach on for longer than 10 minutes as it slightly attacks polyester, but with this minimal exposure UV will kill your canvas long before.

I am another fan of Astonish mould and mildew remover. Every boat should have some at a quid a go. It is basically bleach but with a foaming agent which stops it running. It is also good for removing muck from moulded tread patterned decks.
But it is bleach as my trousers learnt to their cost (lovely stripes now).
