Removing diesel from rope

Best thing we've found in similar circumstances is a in plastic tub. Put in ropes and a triple dose of Gold Vanish Oxiaction. Then top off with water, trample and leave for a few days, trampling once or twice a day. Particularly bad cases may need a change or two in the Vanish solution. Then rinse several times. We then visit the local laundrette late in the evening and run the ropes through a warm wash. But if the aroma of eau de diesel has gone by that point, you probably don't need to wash them as well.

Two things to try:
1. Soak in degreaser. I recently discovered and used Screwfix own brand economy degreaser. Inexpensive, and very effective when diluted to many times its own volume. I used it clean the inside of a diesel fuel tank. After just a short while the tank was spotless and the resulting liquid left no oily trace when disposed of.
2. Many people say Napisan works well as a line cleaner

Still a wash can't hurt on a moderate cycle! Diesel is remarkably pernicious, I washed some contaminated rope and when the scent of the wash wore off the diesel returned. Washed again and hung out on the line during a UK summer - the rain finally rinsed away the smell.

Due to a tank leakage I have got diesel on some ropes. I can not find any advice on how to remove this, can you help?
Or do I need to throw it away?

Sounds like a good reason to buy some new rope, assuming its an affordable quantity.
Viro-sol (diluted with water) is very good at dissolving diesel but I haven't tried it on rope.

I had a small diesel leak in my cockpit locker 10 years ago and contaminated several good braid on braids. I tried soaking in a tub with detergent/febreze but nothing seemed to shift the smell so I eventually retired said ropes and now just use them for towing and the like (not on the boat). They still stink and make your hands stink when you use them.
I should replace yours and be more careful in future.

I'd go for soaking in some bilge cleaner like Bilgex https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=bilgex 5 litre&rct=j#q=bilgex+1+litre

I find it does a good job on diesel spills and is highly concentrated so you may get away with a litre can.

Those look handy.

Several times this summer I've had a scrubbing session mostly to get rid of salt using a builders trug, which as others have said is also useful for many other things.

What is best to add to fresh water to get the salt out?

I've ordered one to try.

Try soaking for a few days in traffic film remover (TFR) then wash with a pressure washer if you have one. Brilliant for removing diesel stains from concrete as well.
